Olympus Using Four Thirds Micro System Concept Camera
September 28, 2008 | Digital Camera, Olympus | 2 CommentsOlympus has announced it has begun developing an interchangeable lens type digital camera on the basis of the Four Thirds Micro System and presented a concept model of the camera at Photokina 2008.

The development of the device bring dramatic reductions in the size and weight of the Olympus E-System.
The global market for interchangeable lens type digital cameras continues to grow, but only accounts for about 7 percent of total digital camera market. Given the much larger share held by interchangeable lens type digital cameras when the film was dominant means of imaging, it seems there is still ample room for growth in sales in this category.
The Micro Four Thirds System standard was created to meet this need by allowing the development of radically more compact and lightweight interchangeable lens type digital camera systems. The device under development will be the first Olympus camera to comply with Micro Four Thirds system standard, interchangeable lenses and comply with the standard are also moving forward. In addition, users will be able to climb into force of the Four Thirds wide-angle, telephoto, macro-and micro lenses on the Four Thirds system bodies via an adapter.
Product name, launch date and retail price of an interchangeable lens type digital camera on the basis of the Four Thirds Micro System are not determined.
